Build your resilience
I read an article in The New York Times, where a psychologist suggested that each one of us currently has an additional part-time job titled “COVID management.” We cannot underestimate how much time and mental energy goes into making decisions about our own health and wellbeing, as well as health and wellbeing of our family and friends. We cannot control what happens and will happen with the virus in our communities, but we can control our response to it. Now more than ever, we need balance at each level of our systems to maintain stability and resilience: structural stability to keep the body healthy, physiological immunity to keep us resilient, and emotional balance to manage the challenges that come our way. Intentional and mindful breathing practice can help us cultivate stability and resilience at every level of our system.
This is what our new yoga series Breathe to Live: Yoga for Energy and Vitality is about. It helps you develop a better understanding of the inner workings of your body through breath awareness and affect your physiological state with breath regulation. It explains how our respiratory system works, what kind of breathing patterns are optimal, and how they affect our physiology. The series includes 25 yoga practices that illustrate each point discussed. Some of those practices are longer; they include both movement and breath work and teach you how to link them together. Some practices are shorter and focus primarily on the breath; they help you familiarize yourself with individual breathing techniques and how to apply them to specific situations in your daily life. The series also includes the collection of articles I wrote about each aspect of the respiratory system and the main yogic energy models in printable pdf format, as well as video summaries of the most important points for each chapter.
Please check it out and continue to use breath to build your physiological resilience!
