Curate your possessions
What kind of feeling do you want your home to give you? Do you think of it as a peaceful retreat or a place for entertaining? Do you like it to be cozy and comfortable or bright and spacious? Do you like to have things in perfect order, or do you thrive in artistic disarray? It helps to have a more clear idea of what kind of environment makes you feel the way you want to feel. Once you know what kind of feeling you are looking for, you can organize your home in a way that enhances that feeling.
Gretchen Rubin writes: “We can curate our possessions to spotlight the people, places and activities we love. And once that beauty is created, it’s important to revel in it – to experience the inner calm that flows from outer order.”
HOW TO: Ask yourself – what kind of feeling do I want my home to give me? Then look around and note which objects support this feeling, and which ones interfere with it. Consider putting things that conflict with that feeling out of sight, and surround yourself with objects that make you feel the way you want to feel.
