Do yoga for fun

How often do you practice yoga for enjoyment? We usually practice yoga ourselves to deal with some physical or mental challenges, so it can get pretty utilitarian. This week let’s try to practice yoga simply because it feels good.

HOW-TO: Pick any yoga practice that you feel drawn to (you can pick one of Sequence Wiz practices, if you like), or create your own. As you go through the practice, approach it with a playful attitude – stretch like a cat, make up stories about poses, make silly sounds – whatever feels good to you. Feel free to laugh at yourself or anything else, and enjoy this time with your body. Notice how you feel after the practice and whether or not it translates into your day.

 

Here is an example of how you can make your practice more playful. In this “Dispel darkness” Warrior Practice students are asked to use their imagination and manifest the qualities inherent in some yoga poses. The class is based on a story “a la Lord-of-the-rings”, includes multiple Warrior poses and The River of Life meditation.
