Reflect your real self

/
Comments1

Do your possessions reflect who you are now? Who you used to be? The image that you want to present? For example, at some point in the past I decided that I wanted to paint. I purchased art supplies, set up my canvas and painted a sloppy looking Buddha over one Sunday afternoon. It was pretty clear to me then and there that painting wasn’t my thing, but those art supplies stayed scattered around for months, making me feel guilty and inadequate every time I looked at them. It was a relief to finally get rid of them and put my idea of myself as an artist behind me. Do you have items in your surroundings that do not reflect your current identity?

HOW TO: Walk around your house and observe it with a critical eye. Are you using that treadmill, reading those magazines, playing that guitar, wearing those fancy clothes? Or is it just wishful thinking, or clinging to the past? It might be good to get rid of those to make room for your real self. It might also be a good opportunity to reassess what that real self is.

Yes….it’s time. As I look around my eyes fall to the stationary bike I never use, and the guitar I bought when I started guitar lessons, and then stopped. It really does not feel very good to see them taking up space.
