Spend time outside

Some years ago I read an interview with Oprah in which she mentioned one of the main reasons she decided to wrap up her Chicago show and move to California. She said that for years she barely spent any time outside! Every morning she would step from her house into the car, then to the parking garage of her studio, then to her studio, and in the evening she did the same in reverse. We are not Oprah, but we can easily get into the same rhythm and barely go outdoors. For many years I didn’t have a car and took public transportation everywhere in any kind of weather, and it was perfectly fine. Now that I have a nice comfortable car I have to invent reasons to walk places because it’s so much easier to just drive. That’s one of the main reasons I found a yoga studio space within 17 minutes walking distance from my house – that’s a built-in outdoor time every day.

So this week I am inviting you to move outside for at least 30 minutes every day. It doesn’t matter what you do – walk, tend to your garden, shovel snow – just move your body. For some of you it will be a piece of cake, for others – not so much. Of course, please be conscious of the weather and dress accordingly. When you go outside notice the feeling in your body, the quality of your energy, the state of your mind.

And please share below – what did you end up doing? How did it feel? Did you have to come up with additional things to do or is moving outside already built into your day?

Thank you Olga, this is a great reminder to make a point of spending time outside every day, especially in winter when it can be hard to find the motivation.
I work mainly from home and although I am a natural outdoors person some days I can get bogged down with work and realise I’ve not been outside all day. I’m going to aim to do your superwoman warm up and then take a walk after breakfast everyday this week.
Best wishes

The timings didn’t always go to plan last week but I did the practice and had my walk most days and it felt great!
