Steady your mind and soothe your system with Pratiloma Ujjayi
Feeling unbalanced or out of sorts? Try Pratiloma Ujjayi. Pratiloma Ujjayi is a powerful pranayama technique for regulating the breath, calming the nervous system, and anchoring the mind. It is considered a more advanced pranayama technique because it is a bit more complicated. It combines the elements of Ujjayi breath and alternate nostril breathing. You have to pay close attention to each step of the process, which helps focus your mind and prepares you for meditation. This technique is also meant to integrate your right and left brain hemispheres so that you could approach your everyday tasks both sequentially and whole-istically.
We usually do this technique in a stable seated position so that we can dedicate our full attention to it. We aim to complete at least six full cycles to begin experiencing its calming and balancing effects.
To enhance the benefits, it is helpful to precede Pratiloma Ujjayi with yoga poses that support right-left brain integration, similar to those we use in the Hear It Out, Calm It Down: A yoga practice for a busy mind included in our new webinar series.
The Reclaim Your Calm: Yoga for Better Sleep webinar series includes three hour-long webinars, eight short video tutorials featuring quick techniques and movements, eight full yoga practices, and an 80-page e-book. It’s currently available at an introductory price of $59 (regularly $75). This special offer ends today, June 22, 2025.
