Think big
If we let our pragmatic selves rule our lives, we can forget how to dream and be creative. It can also make us feel stuck in a rut, because we lose our ability to imagine our way out of it. Bill Burnett and Dave Evans write: “Our brains are so tightly wired to be critical, find problems, and leap to judgement that it’s a wonder any ideas ever make it out! We have to defer judgement and silence the inner critic if we want to get all our ideas out.”
This week get into the wild idea space and don’t let the fear of failing or looking foolish limit you.
HOW TO: This week any time you feel stuck at work or in life, try to think of every possible way of getting yourself unstuck. Give room even to the most crazy, wild ideas (you don’t have to act on them). Notice if it’s easy or difficult for you to let your imagination loose.
I have played an active role in a retiree organization where many members are “aging out”. As one of the younger members I find I am asked to do more and more. I love the idea of identifying a Team both to get things done and to support one another as we transition. And as a contract Yoga Instructor I enjoy having the opportunity to network and team with others. Working alone can be challenging and it is important to have support and share different ways of viewing things.
Hi Cynthia, thank you for sharing, I couldn’t agree more! I find that as a yoga teacher I get so used to being on my own and doing my own thing, that I sometimes forget how amazing it is to collaborate with other professionals. But every chance I get to do it, I always end up having a positive experience. So I hope that you build a strong and supportive team!
