Late fall reset: Holding steady through transitional shifts

The seasonal shift is now obvious. Days are getting shorter, we wake up in the dark, the rain settles in for weeks, and by four in the afternoon the day already feels over. You might notice it in your body as cold hands and feet, dry skin, energy dips and an unfocused mind.

In Ayurveda, the junction between two seasons is considered the most destabilizing time of the year. The body needs time to catch up with the seasonal change happening around it. This is when steady routines and warming, grounding practice matter most.

Late fall reset: Holding steady through transitional shifts is that type of practice. We begin by taking stock of how we feel, then slowly articulate the spine, lubricate the joints and build inner warmth. We start with simple movements close to the ground and move into large, sweeping movements that involve the whole body. Along the way we do a bit of strengthening, a bit of mobilizing and a bit of stretching, so it covers all the essentials.

We finish with a Mountain Peak meditation to help you feel stable and clear-headed. The season isn’t the only thing shifting right now, and when the world around us feels precarious, a short anchoring practice can help us weather whatever comes.
